Germany was blamed for starting the war, and had to pay huge sums to mainly Britain and France, and since they were broke, they couldn't pay it back. The Americans however, were quite the opposite. The GI Bill helped incoming soldiers receive cheap education and low interest houses. (Levitt towns). The nations was very prosperous.
