To find intercepts, simply set a variable equal to 0. In this case, we want x-intercepts, so the y-value at any point on the x-axis is 0. y = x^2 - 2x - 3 0 = x^2 - 2x - 3 Now we factor: 0 = (x-3)(x+1) Set each term equal to 0 separately: x-3 = 0 --> x = 3 x+1= 0 --> x = -1 So the answer is 3.
