What is the slope of a line that passes through the point (1,-1) and is parallel to a line that passes through (3,6) and (1, -2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you are looking for slope, then the first point they tell you is just extraneous information. You need to use the second two points to find slope. Slope is the change in y/change in x over the two points that the line is parallel to (because parallel lines have the same slope). Can you tell me how much y changes and how much x changes between (3,6) and (1,-2)?

x decreases 2 numbers, and y decreases 8.
