The Second Great awakening was partly a reaction again the rationailism that was common during the Enlightenment and the American Revolution, and led to many reform movements. The Mormons sprouted from the Second Great awakening, and leaders such as Horace Mann, Dorothea Dix created reforms for education and rehab for the mentally ill.
