. A pentagon has 5 congruent sides and each angle measures 108°. Which word completely describes the pentagon? A. equilateral B. equiangular C. regular

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equilateral

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

The pentagon you describe has equal angles, so it is equiangular. It also has equal sides, so it is equilateral. A regular polygon is both equilateral and equiangular.

i just looked and made sure of it.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Look, the polygon in the picture is both equilateral AND equiangular. That is the definition of a regular polygon. The problem statement asks you to choose the word which COMPLETELY describes the figure. Regular is one of the choices, and completely encompasses all of what we know about this polygon. Look at it a different way. Both squares and rectangles are equiangular. Squares are equilateral. A square is a regular polygon because it is both equilateral and equiangular. A 4-sided equilateral polygon might be a square or a rectangle, but a 4-sided regular polygon can only be a square.
