This is a tricky one. The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred after the Bay of Pigs, but the missiles weren't sent home because of it, so that rules out (A). (B) is also out -- his promises didn't matter as much after the failed invasion and Castro remained in power until a few years ago actually. (C) is right to an extent -- it was a total failure. But he didn't send anyone to jail despite it. 

So I'd probably go with (D). JFK didn't try to deny responsibility for the failed invasion, he stepped up and admitted it to the public. And after the Cuban Missile Crisis, his popularity exploded.
