What is the function of RAM in a computer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What makes ram different from processor.

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

Random Access Memory, RAM, is what stores instructions and data for the processor to read/write as it processes the instructions of a program on the data given to the program.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why increase in RAM memory increases pc performance.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

Consider RAM short term memory, with so much you have to forget and input new. With more short term memory you can process much more before forgetting. The CPU process is sequential and as long as the date being worked on is in RAM is doesn't have to find it and supply it to RAM.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why cant we use hard disk as ram. As it contain big memory. Since memory in HD is erasable and rewritable why cant we use this as temporary memory.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

This can be done but it's much slower, there's new ram coming out that is faster then the present. Why have 1 GHZ CPU when your memory is only 30 MHZ.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is meant by memory Boot up.

OpenStudy (kenljw):

When an error occurs such that certain machine language is lost required for operation, as in DOS or other system functions, you must reload the RAM with vital program sequences. Hence boot up
