There are two ways I could interpret this. Assuming you wrote it correctly then: y-(1/y)+4+3-(2y/2y)=y-(1/y)+6 Assuming you meant (y-1)/(y+4)+(3-2y)/2y then we get a common denominator and have 2y(y-1)+(3-2y)(y+4)/((y+4)2y) which simplifies to (12-7y)/(2y^2+8y)
