compare and contrast a system that is dependant and a system that is independent

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a dependent system is one where one equation depends on the other ex: x+y = 10 2x+2y = 20 notice how the second equation is just the first one, but everything has been multiplied by 2...so the second equation "depends" on the first one so to speak In any dependent system, there are infinitely many solutions since there are infinitely many points of intersection between the two lines

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

an independent system on the other hand is one where both equations aren't dependent on one another so they don't overlap like before and there's only one point of intersection...so there's exactly one solution
