Find all x-intercepts and y-intercepts of the graph of the function. F(x)= x^3 - x^2 -9x +9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= (3,0),(-3,0),(1,0) y= (0,9)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

find the y-intercept by putting x = 0 in your function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That comes out to 9 right?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

twigo2 - dont just give him the answer - show him how to solve the problem

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

yes so y-intercept is the point (0.9)

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

(0,9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thanks, I'm just not sure how to find the x intercept if there If there is no y value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Woops sorry for my wording.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you need to solve the equation x^3 - x^2 - 9x + 9 = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I see, I got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

one clue to this is since the last number is + 9 so x = 3 and x = -3 are possible values of the intercepts

OpenStudy (cwrw238):
