In your own words, explain how stalactites are formed in caves

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Stalactites, basically mineral rich water droplets in the roofs of caves drip down from the roof of the cave, leaving a thin layer of calcite in they're wake. This process continue over time, calcite building up over and over again until you form a stalactite. This is the same process with the stalagmite, which is basically an upside down stalactite, the process is basically revered in such that the water dripping down from the roof of a cave builds up on the bottom of the cave to make an upside down stalactite. Feel free to put it in your own words.

These are my own words, and I'm technically not supposed to have given you a direct answer, but that was the best way I could put it.
