you can use pythagorean theorym to solve this. so set up the problem like this: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 or 17^2 + 9^2 = c^2 or 289 + 81 = c^2 or 370 = c^2 to solve, you square root both sides, so it should look like this: \[c = \sqrt{370}\] in other words, the square root of 370 is your answer
