Evaluate the expression below when y = -3. 2y + 7 __________ -4y - 10

OpenStudy (espex):

Anywhere you see a 'y', plug in -3 and solve.

That doesn't really help me

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

just think about that 2 times (-3) + 7 --------- -4 times (-3) -10 so what is 2 times -3? then add 7...you get? and what is -4 times -3? then subtract 10...you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-13? -2

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

not quite....2 times -3....would be -6 correct? then -6 + 7 would be 1 and -4 times -3 ...is 12 right? (negative times negative = positive) then - 10 is 2 so 1 -- 2

My brain hurts

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

lol, don't worry you did great on your last bit of problems :) this one you just follow these steps... your final answer would be 1/2 or you can write that as .5 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

understand it? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope but past that question lol
