the height of the cone is 30 cm. A small cone is cut off at the top by a plane paralel to the base. If the volume is 1/27 of the volume of the cone, at what height, above the base, is the section made?

so first, do you know the equation for volume of a cone...? 2nd ly, the volume of the smaller cone is 1/27 the volume of the first cone, so do you understand from the first equation what the relationship between change in height to change in volume is? 3rd, from the ration of that relationship, and the ratio they give you for 1st cone to 2nd cone volume, you should be able to answer your question fairly easily
