help!!! jim had 60 ft of string. he cut the string in 3 parts so that the first part was twice the lenght of the second and the second was half the length to the third. how long was each piece of string?

Just give the value of the middle part, which is the shortest, to a variable such as x. so second part=x. first part=2x, third part=2x, => 2x+x+2x=60 => 5x=60. Simple math thereon.
