Match each shape with its surface area. Use 3.14 for pi and round to the nearest whole number where necessary. (match) 1. square pyramid: base length 5 meters, slant height 10 meters 2. cone: radius 6 meters, slant height 8 meters 3. square pyramid: base length 6 meters, slant height 11 meters 4. cone: radius 6 meters, slant height 5 meters A.264 B.125 C.207 D.168

OpenStudy (abb0t):

surface area is just the area of each side added together, for the first one, it's just a bunch of triangles multiplied by the base all added together, does that make sense?

KInd of.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Same with a cone: area of cone is \(\pi rs\) ADDED to \(\pi r^2\) which is the area of the base.

Ok.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

For square pyramid, you need 1. area of square, 2. area of ONE triangle. BUT notice that there are FOUR triangles in a a square pyramid: |dw:1369414678236:dw| Since there are 4 triangles, the area is 4 but area of a triangle is divided by 2. so you get \(2s^2sl\)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

sorry \(s^2+2sl\)

Oh, okay.
