The current population of Dallas, Texas is about 1,260,000 people. The function f(t) = 1,170,000(1.12)t gives the predicted population of Dallas in t years. About what will the population of Dallas be in 6 years?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

so you would just plug (6) in for your t here \[f(6) = 1,170,000(1.12)^6\]

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Agreed... btw, the formula is just saying that each year, the population is expected to be about 12% larger than it was in the previous year. multiplying by 1.12 adds 12% each time. It is sobering to look at how few years it will take to double the population if it is growing at a 12% rate!

i got 2309372.542
