Lets see: #1, asynchronous is simpler, and they can both have errors without error checking and do two way communications. So that kills everything but b for synchronous. #2 gateway is the router you send to when you don't know where to go. path calculator is part of a routing protocol that builds routing tables based on criteria. "front-end processor" hmmm... look that one up. router, a device that connects disparate networks and routes packets between them based on assorted rules. I would take a closer look at c. I am not saying it is c, because d CAN be a computer used as a router, and that would be a valid answer. However, go back to your class materials and make sure of what a "front-end processor" is because in general, that is something that pre-processes data to make an overall system more efficent.
