Triangle ABC has side lengths AB=12.75, BC=13.75 and CA=x. Given that x is an integer, what is the maximum possible value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

CA=18.75

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

"Given that x is an integer" and "CA = x" strongly suggests that CA is not 18.75 :-)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If you put AB and BC end to end in a straight line, that establishes an upper bound on the value of CA if the triangle is to close. What is the largest integer < AB + BC?
