Aztec empire?

The Aztec empire was located in Mexico from 1428-1521. They spoke Nahuatl language. A group called the Mexicas, expanded the empire until it streched from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. The people in the land that was conquered by the Aztec needed to paid regular tributes to the central authority. The Aztec were skilled at agriculture, crafting and they loved art. Aztec were famous at practicing human sacrifice. They practiced human sacrifice to repay the gods for 'sacrificing themselves to create the universe' Sacrifices were held 18 times a year. The Aztec empire was very powerful during that time, but it was exterminated by a Spanish expedition led by Hernan Cortes in 1519. In 1519, the Aztec leader, Moctezuma II, welcomed them because he thought they were gods in their human form. The Aztec soon realized that the Spanish conquistadores plan was to conquer. Half of the Aztec's population died from diesease brought by the Spanish, called Smallpox. The rest of the Aztec's population died from battles with the Spanish conquisatdores, and Aztec's enimies. 1521, was the end of the Aztec's empire.
