OpenStudy (loser66):

my understanding about the topic is : 1/ focus on personal life of leaders is a wrong way to teach history 2/ excessively praising leaders hallucinates students, makes them think they can do nothing, just sit there and wait for a hero comes to rescue them. 3/ the evidence used to support the writer's argument is strong enough to show that using leaders' personal lives on the wrong way can distort the goal of history teaching. I need your check,

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That is very good.

OpenStudy (loser66):

what do you mean? I really understood the topic?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yes. If you wrote that paper.

OpenStudy (loser66):

no, Mertsj. that paper is topic, I have to re write it , use my own words to paraphrase it.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Oh, I see. Yes. You have the ideas of what the paper is saying.

OpenStudy (loser66):

ok, thank you, that's it. the leftover is my duty, I am afraid of misunderstanding about the main idea of the author.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

attention paid to the personal lives of leaders actually does a disservice to American students.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That is the thesis of the author.

OpenStudy (loser66):

got it. how hard for a math student like me study "literature" hihi

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Me too.

OpenStudy (dan815):

my understanding of this topic is that, this author is scared and worried that the new generation is being pacified by the methods of education and they are unaware of how to bring in social change. I also believe this author has the "we can do it" attitude towards social change. She believes that it requires numbers, a majority for the cause to tip the scales of injustice. She wants the indoctrination of saviors to stop in the education system, and she has handpicked a few as well as particular cases and presented them in her point of view. I believe it is important to consider both the pros and the cons of this teaching method. Though I cannot fully disagree with this author, she fails to mentions the advantages of looking at exceptional qualities.

OpenStudy (loser66):

hey, I didn't finish reading yet!!! why do you delete

OpenStudy (dan815):

i meant to say in "her" point of view not our xD

OpenStudy (loser66):

last sentence: " Though I cannot fully disagree with this author, she fails to mentions the advantages of looking at exceptional qualities. " unclear to me, friend

OpenStudy (dan815):

she fails to mention*

OpenStudy (dan815):

because she says that looking at an exceptional individual's characteristics deters the morale of the reader, making him think, how can i ever be like this or we need people like this to step in and do our work. But that is her biased opinion.

OpenStudy (dan815):

its a statement that lacks sufficient proof

OpenStudy (dan815):

and she doesnt back it up article

OpenStudy (loser66):

got what you mean, thank you, friend

OpenStudy (dan815):

but i think its every important, my biased point of view. Though I strongly refrain from ever idolizing another human. It is very important to take note of the strong points in someones character and study its origins and understand. Also when you begin to study its origin and understand, you can add these characteristics to your own nature. History when studied in depth could lead the masses to see the wisdom in the ways of these highlighted exceptional people, and to adhere some of their characteristics. In fact we could have quite the opposite effect she mentions, I say this statement with the same lack of proof as her. But, we could end up with more rosa parks, more malcom Xs and more Martin Luther kings

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Not just lack of proof. There is a lack of counter argument. If you can not stand up to your strongest detractors, then what challenge have you faced? There is one underlying point that the author makes that I do agree with. History is incompletely presented. On the other hand, how can you present everything? Choices do need to be made. That is an example of showing both sides of an argument, which the author does not do.

OpenStudy (dan815):

However I do not believe this is what is necessary to bring in social change, social indifference has stemmed from the very imperfect man, and studying the imperfect man as many as it may be, cannot bring in a perfect man. "And perfect men is what will create the ideal social life on earth" is what i believe the people of this world think.

OpenStudy (dan815):

^ i also agree with e mccormick

OpenStudy (loser66):

ok, both you help me and I am glad to hear that you meet at the same point. we are done here, thank you, hey, see, there is a guy post a math problem at this department, we go there and help him, ok?? next post.

OpenStudy (dan815):

The author's selection however is very selective, she has concentrated on a very close time frame of similar types of activists. If the selection was more of a random distribution through the society thenn...

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Mertsj and dan815 are hovering here... if you get them to help someone with a math problem, I am certainly not needed on it! LOL

OpenStudy (loser66):

@e.mccormick I got enough information, I will write my essay as well as I can.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Best of luck on it! Think of good English papers as being like a proof. If you skip too many steps or use improper procedures in a proof, it is invalid. When it comes to college writing and formal arguments, you need to develop them in the same sort of ways. Present facts. Sure, you have a conclusion, but it is based on things.

OpenStudy (loser66):

I know, I took many English courses and past with all As but that the 2 years ago events. when I hit math, I forgot all of them, even my speaking skill, it's tooooo bad. I can speak English fluently when I tutor my friends in math, conversation? babble, they have to wait for me phrasing thing, hehehe

OpenStudy (dan815):
