OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Multiply both sides by the LCD.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lcd is x^2?

OpenStudy (kenljw):

8/x + 15/x^2 =-1 multiply both sides by x^2, place on one side of eq x^2+8x+15 use quadratic equation x=8/2 (1+-sqrt(1-15 (2/8)^2) x=4 (1+-1/4 sqrt(1) x=5,-3

so i didnt have to do it the canceling out way?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Yes, LCD is x^2. By multiplying both sides by the LCD, and simplyfing the fractions, you get rid of the fractions.
