President Roosevelt pledged to follow “the policy of the good neighbor” toward Latin American countries in the 1930s. Why did he think this policy was necessary? What did he do to follow it?

The Roosevelt corollary was added to the Monroe Doctrine. He established the big-stick diplomacy involved in Latin America. It meant that the US would send gunboats to a Latin American country that was delinquent in paying its debts because many Latin American countries owed debts to European creditors.
