what are some properties of electrolytes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Electrolytes (nutritional perspective) are traditionally defined as water soluble mineral salts that are required for bodily function. These are lost through sweat and thus replenished from food and gatorade ( athletes). From an electrochemical perspective, they also must be water soluble and are always ionic salts. They are required for the conduction of electricity as the movement of anions and cations allow the current to flow. Distilled water does not conduct electricity.
