Subtract and simplify. (4-i)-(6+6i)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

(4 - i) - (6 + 6i) Distribute the negative: 4 - i - 6 - 6i Collect like terms 4 - 6 - i - 6i -2 - 7i

so I just take out the parentheses and combine?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You take out the first set of parenthese since they are unnecessary. You can't just remove the second set of parentheses. You must distribute the negative sign that is outside the 2nd set of parentheses. Then you combine like terms.
