\[a_n= 4 a_{n-1} \] is short for, to find the next a multiply the "current a" by 4 you start with a1= -7 what is the next a (what is a2 ?) a2 is 4 * a1 what is a2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-14???

OpenStudy (phi):

they tell you a1 is -7 .... the first number in the sequence is -7 looking at your choices, you can cross off any that don't start with -7 now find a2 to figure out which of what is left is the answer.
