Dr. Martin Luther King is the most well known civil rights leader. However, there were many different leaders in the civil rights movement who had different strategies for asserting the rights of African Americans. Compare and contrast two of the following groups: CORE, SNCC, SCLC, Black Panthers, or Nation of Islam. Consider the groups philosophies, tactics, goals, and membership.

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

The Black Panthers were a group of close-knit political civil rights leaders. I believe Malcolm X was involved, but after he got shot, the group disbanded. They didn't turn to violence as solutions to issues. The Nation of Islam, however, did turn to violence. Warith Deen Muhammad was their leader and they were some of the first Black Muslim groups to appear. Malcolm X was shot by Muhammad's people, and I don't think either of the groups liked each other.
