4^-2x * 4^x= 64

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[\large 4^{-2x}-4^x=64\] here, you can add powers because the bases are the same, they are both "4"\[\large 4^{\color{red}{-2x}}*4^{\color{red}x}=4^{-2x+x}\]\[\large 4^{-x}=64\]\[\large 4^{-x}=4^{3}\] since the bases are the same we can just evaluate the powers.\[\large -x=3\]\[\large x=-3\]
