To find the perimeter of the garden, you have to do 2L + 2W, or length + length + width +width. According to our picture, you do:
2w+2w+w+w=228.
Simplify:
6w=228
Divide:
w= 38
So the width of our garden is 38. Since the length of our garden is double width, you do 38x2, which equal to 76.
L=76
W= 38
To check your work you can do, 2(76) + 2(38)= 228 ft.
