Find the fifth roots of 243(cos 240° + i sin 240°). Please help me!

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Fifth roots of 243 e^(i 240deg)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the 5th root is 3.. so it would be 3(cos __ +i sin __). im having trouble finding the degrees

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Well the angle part is 4i pi/15 (so 4 pi/15 radians or 48 degrees goes in your blank), but that's just one of the five roots in the complex plane.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3(cos 72 + i sin 72) 3(cos 144 + i sin 144) 3(cos 216 + i sin 216) 3(cos 288+ i sin 288) 3(cos 360 + i sin 360) is this correct?

OpenStudy (rulnick):

No, I think the angles, in degrees, are 48, 120, 192, 264, 336.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so its 3(cos48 + i sin 48) 3(cos 120 + i sin 120) 3(cos 192 + i sin 192) 3(cos 264 + i sin 264) 3(cos 336 + i sin 336)

OpenStudy (rulnick):

Yes, I believe that's correct.

Thanks again!

welcome
