OpenStudy (anonymous):

in a chemical reaction what are the products of methanol and salicylic acid?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

it is esteriication reaction where alcohol and acid react to form water and the ester Salicylic acid + Methanol <==> Methyl Salicylate + Water

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answering generally : Alcohol + Acid -------> Ester + water

OpenStudy (abb0t):

I think you might be forgetting your acid catalyst to drive the reaction :)

OpenStudy (jfraser):

methyl salicylate is also known as oil of wintergreen. Simple stuff to make in a laboratory, and it smells better than most organic chemists!

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Excuse me, but I happen to like the smell of organic chemists :p

OpenStudy (jfraser):

just better than most, @abb0t
