Solve the equation lnx=3. Round the answer to 4 decimal places

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=e^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 1.09

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do e^3 on your calculator and see what it says. You can't do that one in your head.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 1.7321

OpenStudy (espex):

The constant 'e' is equal to 2.718... and thus raised to the 3rd power cannot equal 1.73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh...

OpenStudy (espex):

How are you evaluating e^3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 32.1387

OpenStudy (espex):

You are doing something incorrectly, 3^3 is 27, so e^3 cannot be more.

OpenStudy (espex):

Does your calculator have an e? or can you take 2.718 and raise it to the 3rd power?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even better, type e^3 on Google :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK...i figured out the problem

OpenStudy (espex):

There ya go, that makes it easy. Good call @FutureMathProfessor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20.0855

OpenStudy (espex):

Yes, good work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Congrats oHolmes! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh haha I was thinking it was 10043/500 and in decimal form it's 20.086

OpenStudy (espex):

Actually to solve this you would raise each side to a power of e since e^{lnx} = x, also giving you e^{3} on the other side.
