Probability question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://i335.photobucket.com/albums/m467/flameboy298/Recapture-2.png a. What is the probability a day in the 80s is a Monday? b. Which set forms the intersection of Tuesdays in the 80s? c. What is the probability an observation picked at random is both a Sunday and more than 100 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help going through these questions

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Ok, so for number 1, a day in the 80s, I think that part is just extra information to try to fool you. So it would be what is the probability a day is a monday, and then you would figure out how many mondays there are in a year (four mondays a month multiplied that by 12 cus of how many months there are) so 1/48, I think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think maybe the second one is maybe 100-109?Forms a intersection

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Woot woot! I am not sure what number two is, but three for the first part it would be again, 1/48 because there are 48 sundays in a year. The part about more than 100 degrees is tricky, though, so I am not sure about the last part.....Number two might be 180 and 90, but then again, that is a total guess and I could be very wrong...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

No problem!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait I have one more

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Aight I'm game

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Compute the probability that an observation picked at random will be a Saturday observation.

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

My best guess is 1/48, but at random...I would say 1/48, I think... Sorry if this is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks anyways man

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Any time!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that last question is just trying to fool you as well but there are only 7 days a week and it is not saying in a year... so maybe its just 1/7?

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

but it doesn't say in a week...

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

I have no idea, I find it ironic that I'm even helping with math cus I ultimately fail at the subject xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also your answer to the first question was wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It Wouldn't be 1/48, because that would assume only 48 days in a year... what you meant to type was 48/365. simplified that is 1/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhh....and I was really convinced it was 1/48 thanks

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

Right! Sorry bout that again...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait 48/365?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem it was a simple mistake. Zz was on the right track. And simplify 48/365

OpenStudy (anonymous):

48/365 = 1/7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I simplified but did you understand the rest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

number 3 should be 3/20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What makes you think that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/20 my bad. and because you take all the days that were 100 deggrees or over, and then however many of those days wer sundays is your answer also simplify 2/20 to 1/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem. anything else you need?
