Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Gulf of Tonkin R. was like a loophole to enter the war in Vietnam. The USS Maddox was torpedoed by North Viet ships and with this "incident", this allowed Pres. Johnson to engage in Vietnamese affairs.

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

It's because of the Guld of Tokin that The USA entered the Vietnam War. Like hlee said.

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

And it was all basically fake...

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

No. It was not fake. It was REAL.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it was real, but johnson just wanted communism to GTFO of vietnam so he wanted to intervene real bad so he used this as an excuse to get involved

OpenStudy (zzelinski):

No, I mean it happened, but the whole story behind the attack was made up because Johnson just wanted to advance in Vietnam...

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Like hlee said, once again. Johnson wanted to entered the war because he doesn't want the domino theory to happen. (When the whole continent of Asia and the rest of the world becomes communism) This was Johnson chance to entered a war with a good excuse.
