Many historians feel that the value system of America is based on ideas from the Puritans. Do you agree?
I'm not too sure, but if I would have to guess, I would say yes. Think about how the Puritans were. They were strict people, everyone watched over each other, people would gossip about one another, and everyone had to follow certain values. In today's society it's almost like that. We're just not as strict about it. I live in a small town/village thing, either way its small. Everyone knows everyone and there's a certain way you have to behave. Respecting your elders. Being polite, holding the door for people. Stuff like that. Common values that you would have, stuff that most parents try to raise you on. People are very close with religion, not as much as the Puritans, but religion is still a sensitive subject. I would have to say, in some ways the value system of America is like the Puritans, to some extent. Maybe not hardcore scarlet letter A type of deal, spying on each other, but our morals and values may be different if the Puritans weren't here before us.
