Xavier's dining room table was unstable because one leg was shorter than the others. He placed a 3/4 inch thick piece of wood under the short leg, and it became even with the other legs, which are 19 1/8 inches long. How many inches long was the short leg before Xavier added the wood? 18 3/8 inches 18 5/8 inches 18 3/4 inches 17 5/8 inches

How could you eliminate the fractions to make solving the equation five-twelfths m plus two-twelfths equals eleven-twelfths easier? Divide both sides of the equation by five-twelfths. Divide both sides of the equation by twelve. Multiply both sides of the equation by twelve. Subtract two-twelfths from both sides of the equation.

If all terms are divided by 12, you'll need to multiply by 12 to simplify.
