OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

If 18 ounces cost $5.40, that's $5.40/18 oz = $0.30/oz. How much is $0.30/oz * 24 oz?

If you go the grocery store and look closely at the shelf labels, you'll see that most things have a label with the "unit price", which is what we found by dividing the price of the 18 oz box by the number of ounces in the 18 oz box (18). That allows you to make intelligent comparisons about which size container to buy, although this is often subverted by giving different units for the unit prices. One might be $0.30 / oz, and another is $0.05 / gram. They obey the law requiring them to post the unit prices, but many customers won't be able to make effective comparisons...
