Solve for a: 4a/9=100/45 A. 5 B. 25 C. -5 D. -25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Multiply both sides by 9, divide both sides by 4.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

\[\frac{ 4a }{ 9 } = \frac{ 100 }{ 45 }\] cross multiply simplify and solve for 'a'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did that but I got 0.2 @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

so you multiply 4a...by 45...to get 180a then multiply 9 by 100...to get 900 so you have 180a = 900 divide both sides by 180 to isolate 'a' 180a = 900 ---------- 180 180 a = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, right. I see what I did wrong. Thank you very much!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So I believe you just mixed up where the 'a' was placed...no problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. :)
