OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Firstly: Thanks to the brilliant guys who helped me with my last Geo-related question, @some_someone and @RadEn and @ajprincess. Well, I have another one. Yikes. As I always say: I don't want to know the answer, I want to know how to do these types of problems. My mind is sort of confused about this one. And with a horrible teacher, things sure don't get any better. How would you do this type of problem? http://www.omegamath.com/images/test/geometry/Gtest/quiz3.2.2a.gif Find the measures of x and y. Geo never fails to confuse me. *sigh*

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this is an isosceles triangles, so the base angles are congruent

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

this means x = y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

all 3 angles must add to 180 degrees, so x+y+30 = 180 x+x+30 = 180 ... replace y with x (since x = y) solve for x

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

x2+30 = 180 right ? So I do... wait up. So I do 2x = 180-30 so that's 150. I divide by two... That's... 75 ? so the answer is 75 ?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, x = 75, so y = 75 since x = y

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

btw I would write x2 as 2x since x2 is easily confused with x^2

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

oh, right.

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Thanks :D You're awesome! You cleared up so much that my course messed up at! :D That's the beauty of OpenStudy. People like you.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

glad to be of help

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

What I can't believe it how many people you help. And how many fans you have xD But actually, I help quite a few people in the Computer Science department, particularly the web and server programming languages. I also program a couple of Chrome extensions for OpenStudy. But math is greek to me as of now. That's bud. :) I dream of the day I'll reach 99 SS!

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Do you happen to have heard of TUOSA?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's pretty cool, so I bet you have your share of fans in that section of OS I've only been over there a couple of times, but don't know much about CS

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no don't know what that is

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

That's mainly how I've contributed to OpenStudy. http://www.dumbsearch.com/tuosa/ I also have contributed mostly to the Feedback section. But thanks, you're doing amazing work, helping all those people :) @jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

oh it's like your own site? and yw

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Yes. :) It's a Chrome extension.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

i gotcha

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

For OpenStudy. :)

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

That adds a search tool and other awesome features.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that's something it def needs for sure

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

Yeah, if you have Chrome you could always give it a shot :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

that and integratable latex on the whiteboards

OpenStudy (dumbsearch2):

I guess I'll be your 1353rd fan :3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

lol thx, and hopefully they'll add those updates soon
