My teacher helped me sort of, he said "For lateral area, you are adding up the three triangles that make up the sides of this pyramid. Each triangle is 4 by 4 by 4. So the height of each triangle would go straight down the middle of the triangle and created two 30 60 90 triangles with 2 as the short side, 4 as the hypotenuse and 2 times the square root of 3 as the long side." but I'm not sure how that helps me.
