Wanda plans to make a dress for the homecoming dance. The materials will cost the following amounts, sales tax included: pattern, $2.25; fabric, 5 1/2 yd at $3.57 per yd; thread, $0.60; interfacing, 3 7/8 yd at $1.35 per yd; and zipper, $1.69. Her friend saw the same dress in a store for $30, including sales tax. Would Wanda save more money making the dress by hand, buying it in the store, or would the costs be equivalent?

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Multiply the number of yards of fabric by the cost per yard to find the total cost of fabric. Add up all of the individual costs to see what it would cost to make the dress.
