to answer it .let take few batteries(named a ,b, c ...).also let one terminal is marked with red color (i.e positive terminal )and other terminal is marked with black color (i.e negative terminal)

1)for series connection .....you connect black terminal of previous battery to the red terminal   .and the other(i.e black terminal)with red(positive terminal)of the next battery and repeat it.

2) for parallel connection connect make both terminal common that is connect whole red marked battery terminal (i.e making it positive) and connect the other black marked terinal with each other making it whole negative.
    NOTE-but as per KVL no sources of different magnitude could be connected in parellel.
