I need some math help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I posted it in a attachment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3x+2y = 12\]\[x = 2y\]Solve these.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he bought 12 gallons of paint ok, the big room is the one hes painting, thats twice the number of the small one, what half of 12, and whats the half of half 12, and that would be your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

half of 12 is 6, and since twice the number of 3 is 6, 3 gallons would be left over do you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@callie2240 way of doing it is simple and logical. My way of doing it is slightly less simple but perhaps develop freater understanding for this type of problem. Let x be a coat of paint in the big room. There are 3 coats to do the big room hence 3x. Let y be a coat of paint in the smallroom. There are 2 coats to do the big room hence 2x. The total of these two rooms will equal the 12 gallons of paint \[3x + 2y =12\] We know that the large room is twice the size of the smaller. hence\[x = 2y\]Once we solve for x we can see that he ONLY painted the larger room. In other words he painted 3 coats of paint in x. Or 3x. The amount left over will be \(12-3x\)

oh? lol, sorry thats the wa my teacher taught me and said just to use logic of the words to solved, he said it was must faster and simply to figure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree, for this particular problem, good to have different ways too, especially when it gets much more complicated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol true that :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay i need a little help with this one,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[0.65x + 0.75y = 243.80\]\[x+y=350\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oKAY(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i just need the help writing the sentence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me get the answer now?
