OpenStudy mobile version
So there are quit a lot problems with the mobile version of OpenStudy. First of all: - It load every element from the desktop version and then it hides most of the elements. Only the basic elements remain, like questions, section header, notifications, smartscore. Next: - When you flip the screen to landscape mode, suddenly the desktop version appears. You literally get bombed with elements, adds, even things that aren’t on the desktop version (like create new subject, never seen this on my pc). Because the elements are all over the place and overlap eachother, nothing works anymore because when you tap somewhere you’ll select something else. Also a lot is missing in the mobile version (the one you get in portrait mode) - The messages button - Online fans - Find more subjects - Account/Settings
Also in the desktop version on computer the top of the list of online users in a group is hidden behind the section header and smartscore.
Excellent observations @thomaster but you do have to realize that on mobile you are supposed to have it in portrait mode so you can do the simple ask questions and reply, thats the basics of OS, everything else is important but it would be a lot harder to fit it all correctly, and for now it will probably stay that way.
@JA1 how about tablets? They are mostly used in landscape mode. Also many people use their phones in landscape mode because of the better keyboard. However, this is not the only problem. Because the entire site loads on mobile devices, it uses a lot of data. If it is made only for landscape mode they should use the same portrait design for landscape mode, it will only be wider.
*i mean if its made only for portait mode ofcourse :P
I totally forgot about tablets O_O either way the main problem is the way that OS is built, it has two sides with panels that are constantly loading and is not like a regular website.
No. You guise don't understand, on tablets it runs the desktop edition. Yeah, I explained all this stuff before. The problem on the mobile is that it isn't actually a separate version, it just loads the current desktop one and if the screen is smaller then blah pixels then they load a whole another stripped-down skin on top of it. And imagine that on mobile devices: the lag is immense. Very frankly, it crashes my iTouch. But on tablets it runs the desktop version, because it's got a bigger screen then like a mobile phone. It's not stripped-down on tablets. Another problem is that on the login page, sometimes they randomly put a gigantic ad. Which is really horrible, because on really small devices the X button doesn't appear so there's no way to get out of it. But yes, on my iPad it runs the desktop OpenStudy, and quite well, too.
Yes that I understand because it's like how most sites have the "view in desktop version" button but OS has no mobile site it's purely the desktop but with some features disabled because of screen size.
Yes. I can fix that, though. I actually have a private URL that allows the desktop version. Maybe I should release it.
Um, Preetha mentioned ages ago that you can help her with the mobile site...
BTW Actually you know, in TUOSA, the Chrome extension I made, all the previewpane is is the mobile version I stuck in there in the menu.
yes just like if I were to zoom in to 500% it would automatically go to mobile view (on laptop)
Why? xD
The only browser able to run OS on my phone is chrome lol, every other browser just crashes because of the immense size and all the scripts :P
Or even better, @JA1 try making your desktop browser window really small in width. It'll dynamically resize to the mobile version.
All of you try it and just zoom in as far as you can.
right, @thomaster. It's actually ironic that OpenStudy actually made an even heavier version for mobile phones. lol.
Exactly, so that feature is set in place for mobile users, that should be eliminated and a whole new OS should be placed under mobile.OpenStudy.com
no they should make an app and no dynamic resizes it'll only slow down the site. An app with all functions (exept draw/equation) just from a menu.
hmm! :) I'll make dat app :p
I know for sure many people would greatly appreciate that :P It's a pain to use OS on mobile devices with the current situation
@JA1 Shut up and medal @thomaster. Geez.
xD sorry I was busy with sumfin...
Hear ya! This summer.
haha @JA1 :)
Nice to hear, @Preetha :)
