Solve: x^2-11=7x

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What methods have you learned? factoring, completing square, quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Can't factor this one, so you need to do one of the others. What have you tried so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Quadratic formula formula and completingthsquare- got something with sqrt of 93 and something with the sqrt of 23.25

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Well, the square root of 93 does put in an appearance in the answer...did you decide it must be wrong because it looked weird?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry. It wasn't right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 7+/- sqrt93 all divided by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yo.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Sorry, got interrupted...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was I right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?????

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

\[\frac{7\pm\sqrt{93}}{2}\] is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 7+/- sqrt93 all divided by 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

OS is being a bit flaky for me today...I couldn't see anything!
