3x/2 = 14/3

geerky42 (geerky42):

We want to isolate x, which mean to have x be alone. So multiply both sides by 2 then divide both sides by 3. Hope this help.

What about a proportion?

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

\[\frac{ 3x }{ 2 }=\frac{ 14 }{ 3 }\] isolate x by multiplying by the reciprocal. \[\frac{ 2 }{ 3 }*\frac{ 3x }{ 2 }= \frac{ 14 }{ 3 }*\frac{ 2 }{ 3 }\] you wll see that the x is now isolated after cancelling. \[x= \frac{ 14*2 }{ 3*3 }\] simplify the right side and you'll have your answer :)
