Classify a triangle with side lengths 8m, 16m and 20 m. Answers: right scalene isoseles equilateral

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as all th e sides are unequal and neither the sides form Pythogarean triplet so check scalene

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured it was scalene

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Obviously can't be equilateral, which has 3 equal sides. Can't be isosceles, either, which requires 2 equal sides. To check for right, see if the sum of the squares of the smaller two legs = the square of the longest leg. If so, it is a right triangle. If the sum is smaller, then it is an obtuse scalene. If the sum is larger, then it is acute scalene.
