A child is running on a moving sidewalk in an airport. When she runs against the sidewalk's motion, she travels 42ft in 7 seconds. When she runs with the sidewalk's motion, she travels the same distance in 3 seconds. What is the rate of the child on a still sidewalk and what is the rate of the moving sidewalk?

this is the last one of this kind lol i promise lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x --> spped of the chile y--> speed of sidewalk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

similarly here we have 3(x+y)=42 or x+y=14 and 7(x-y)=42 or x-y=6 adding the two eq 2x=20 or x=10 hence putting x in any one of the eq. we have y=4
