Megan decided to run a 10-km race. Her time of 82 minutes was twice as long as the winner's time. What was the winner's time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if that is the case, then it means that half the time she spent which was 82 mins. was the the time the winner spent to run the race...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand what I am trying to say or a little??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I SUCK at math, so no, not really. Lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let's represent the time the winner spent in running the race by x.. "82 mins. is twice as long as the winner's time" 82 = 2 x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okayy.. I kinda get what you're saying now..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 41 minutes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i converted that into a mathematical statement "is" is the equal sign i represented the winner's time by x since that is what we don't know and trying to find..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh....you found it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! Thank you for the help!

you are welcome!...(:
