When do you multiply/divide and add/subtract exponents?

OpenStudy (phi):

you can figure it out like this: x^3 means x*x*x x^3/x^2 means x*x*x/x*x= x you can see if you just look at the exponents 3-2 = 1 is how to do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when u multiply same base you add when u divide the same base u subtract

OpenStudy (phi):

for multiplying x^2 * x^1 means x*x * x = x*x*x= x^3 (add exponents)

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

So the same base is like (x^3)*(x^7) and different bases is like xy^2*x^3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Thank you.
